Philipp holds a Masters degree in mechanic engineering from ETH Zurich. He spent the first years of his professional career in consulting focusing on the banking sector. In his current role as a senior economist for the Swiss National Bank (SNB) he primarily focuses on topic around cashless payment systems. This includes – amongst others – analysis of data from the Swiss real time gross settlement (RTGS) system, conceptual work around potential new regulations for the Swiss RTGS system and the analysis of central bank digital currencies (CBDC). In the latter he has been involved in SNB’s investigation for the settlement of token transactions in wholesale CBDC for more than three years.
