Paul pioneered climate and environmental disclosure globally and is a prominent thought leader on climate change and the transition to a Net Zero economy. Paul co-founded CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project) in 2001 and spent 12 years as the CEO until 2022. CDP is a global non-profit that drives companies, cities and governments to measure, disclose and reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, safeguard water resources and protect forests. CDP works with over 680 institutional investors with $130 trillion in assets under management and over 18,000 companies disclose their environmental performance through CDP.

Paul received an OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) for services to tackling climate change, in Her Majesty the Queen’s Birthday 2022 Honours List. Paul was awarded the Responsible Business Honouree Award by Reuters Events in 2022 for efforts to advance sustainable business.

Paul initiated the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) in 2014 and has since sat on the board of SBTi, We Mean Business, The Investor Agenda and the Climate Disclosure Standards Board (now part of the International Sustainability Standards Board). In addition, Paul was a council member of the International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC), a member the Global Stranded Assets Advisory Council for the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment at the University of Oxford.

Previously Paul was on the Board of EIRIS (now part of Moody's), a member of the Global Agenda Council on Measuring Sustainability at the World Economic Forum and a High-Level Panel Member for the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) Policy Dialogue.

Paul has a Masters in Responsible Business (with Distinction) from Bath University and a MSC in Business Studies from City University.
